I Buñuel condividono oggi il video di “For The Cops”, brano dell’album “Killers Like Us”, qui in première per l’Italia. L’animazione è una rappresentazione da incubo in una cella di prigione del cantante Eugene S. Robinson, che abbiamo recentemente incontrato per un’intervista esclusiva.
Parlando della canzone, Eugene dice … la vita e i suoi bivi serpeggianti mi hanno visto essere arrestato per un’accusa di cui, per citare Nick Cave, ero quasi del tutto innocente. A quanto pare dire alla polizia che ti chiami Abraham Lincoln è un crimine in America. False informazioni a un agente di polizia. Ma non stava succedendo quel giorno nella cella. Quel giorno nella cella ho immaginato di essere stato preparato per essere violentato ricevendo vestiti senza cerniere che funzionassero per tenerli addosso. Ho anche pensato di potermi tenere i miei vestiti, dove hanno trovato il coltello non ero riuscito a dire loro di avere. Se non sei mai stato avvicinato da uomini con i manganelli che sono intenzionati a convincerti a obbedire mentre eri nudo in una cella di prigione, non hai vissuto. Andare in galera, anche per un solo giorno, rivela la vera essenza dei poteri collettivi: la violenza estrema. Quindi cosa si è imparato dall’essere in prigione, anche per un solo giorno? Estrema violenza e il desiderio di stare fuori di prigione. Il video rappresenta abbastanza benetutto questo, ed è stato davvero utile avere un genio come Dimitris Armenakis a realizzarlo.
Implacabili, spietati, belli, i Buñuel hanno pubblicato il loro terzo album, “Killers Like Us” a febbraio 2022, tramite Profound Lore e La Tempesta International, e ora sono lieti di annunciare le date europee per l’autunno, incluse quattro date in Italia in ottobre: il 14 al Bronson di Ravenna, il 15 allo sPAZIO211 di Torino, il 16 al Legend di Milano e il 17 al Cane di Genova.
L’album di Buñuel “Killers Like Us” – terzo capitolo di una trilogia iniziata con “A Resting Place for Strangers” e poi “The Easy Way Out” – è un’aggiunta killer al canone della buona musica per persone cattive. L’imprevedibile amalgama di ritmi spigolosi, colpi di batteria, chitarre fulminanti e voci che suonano più come minacce che come promesse, è Post-Punk, Proto-Heavy e artistico (come nel Noise avant-garde). La band prende il nome dal regista spagnolo Luis Buñuel, l’unico regista a farsi le ossa per la prima volta facendo bene a ciò che accade quando i rasoi a mano libera incontrano i bulbi oculari.
I Buñuel sono un super-gruppo internazionale che vanta il lavoro sonoro del trio italiano del chitarrista Xabier Iriondo (Afterhours), il basso di Andrea Lombardini e la batteria di Francesco Valente (Il Teatro Degli Orrori, Snare Drum Exorcism e Lume ), insieme alla voce di Eugene S. Robinson (OXBOW).

Buñuel have shared the video for “Killers Like Us”album track “For The Cops”. An animated video mastered by Dimitris Armenakis, “For The Cops” is a reeling, nightmarish depiction of vocalist Eugene S. Robinson’s stint in a jail cell.
Speaking of the song, vocalist Eugene S. Robinson – whom we’ve recently met for a video-interview – says …life and its meandering crossroads saw me getting arrested for a charge of which, to quote Nick Cave, I was almost nearly wholly innocent. Apparently telling cops that your name is Abraham Lincoln IS a crime in America. False Information to a Police Officer. But that’s not was going on that day in the cell. That day in the cell I imagined I was being set up to be raped by being given clothes with no zippers that worked to keep them on. I also thought I’d be able to keep my own clothes. Which is where and when they found the knife I had not managed to tell them I had. If you’ve never been approached by men with nightsticks who are intent on beating you into compliance while you’ve been naked in a jail cell, you have not lived.
Going to jail, even for a single day, is to be weighed, in balance, for calculation that reveals the true essence of collective powers: extreme violence. So what was learned from being in jail, for even a single day? Extreme violence. Well that and a desire to stay out of jail. The video carries our intention well enough I believe. Without having to be there yourself. In regards to the video it really helped to have a genius like Armenakis both soften the story by animating it and in some/lots of ways make it more nightmarish. If that was even possible.

Buñuel’s album “Killers Like Us” – the third part of a trilogy that started with “A Resting Place for Strangers”, and then “The Easy Way Out” – is a killer addition to the canon of good music for bad people. Buñuel’s unpredictable amalgam of angular rhythms, drum salvos, blitzkrieg guitars and vocals that sound more like threats than promises is post-punk, proto-heavy and arty (as in avant-garde noise). The band are named after the Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel, the only filmmaker to first make his bones by making good on what happens when straight razors meet eyeballs.
Buñuel are a near-super group of global significance boasting the sound work of the Italian trio of guitarist Xabier Iriondo (Afterhours), the bass of Andrea Lombardini, and the drums of Francesco Valente (Il Teatro Degli Orrori, Snare Drum Exorcism, and Lume), along with the vocals of Eugene S.
